CrowdStrike Appoints Amol Kulkarni as Vice President Engineering

Former Microsoft Bing Engineering Leader joins Executive Team at CrowdStrike

Irvine, CA – Dec. 9, 2014 – CrowdStrike Inc., a leading provider of next-generation endpoint protection, threat intelligence, and services, today announced the appointment of Amol Kulkarni as Vice President of Engineering. In this role, Kulkarni will oversee the company’s engineering organization and customer-facing technology infrastructure.

Kulkarni brings more than 20 years of engineering experience, ranging from sensitive embedded systems to highly available cloud services handling hundreds of terabytes of data inflow daily. Prior to joining CrowdStrike, Kulkarni held numerous senior engineering positions at Microsoft. Most recently, he was responsible for the knowledge platform in Bing, driving significant gains for Bing’s search market share. Kulkarni also held senior roles in Windows Azure and BizTalk Server, helping reduce COGs and improve developer productivity. Kulkarni holds a PhD in Electrical Engineering from the University of Washington, a Master of Technology degree from the Indian Institute of Technology, and a Bachelor of Engineering degree from the College of Engineering, Pune, India.

“We are excited to have Amol join our team,” said George Kurtz, CrowdStrike President and CEO. “Amol is a seasoned engineering executive with a proven track record building large-scale cloud platforms using modern, big-data technologies such as graph databases to support enterprise-class products. We are processing over three billion events per day and continue to see increasing demand for our offerings. Amol is well poised to help us achieve the next stage of growth through continued innovation.”

CrowdStrike’s next-generation endpoint protection offering, CrowdStrike Falcon®, enables customers to prevent damage from targeted attacks, as well as detect and attribute advanced malware and adversary activity in real time. Being able to track sophisticated attacker campaigns across an organization’s infrastructure requires a platform that is able to track state across execution, time, and devices, and be able to process hundreds of thousands of events each second. CrowdStrike’s Stateful Execution Inspection engine is at the heart of the Falcon Platform, pinpointing sophisticated intrusions through the use of Indicators of Attack (IOA), purpose-built to defend customers from determined adversaries. This approach is fundamentally different from legacy signature and Indicator of Compromise (IOC) detection systems focused solely on malware and known threats.

“This is a great opportunity to lead a very talented engineering team and deliver new, transformative security solutions,” said Kulkarni. “CrowdStrike has proven itself to be a true innovator in the endpoint security space, and as a result has experienced tremendous growth in the past year. I am excited and honored to join CrowdStrike, and I look forward to working with the team as we expand the CrowdStrike Falcon® Platform”.

Underscoring CrowdStrike’s growth, the company was recently recognized as one of the top cybersecurity innovators in 2014 by Security Innovation Network (SINET). In addition, CrowdStrike was listed in the prestigious MIT Technology Review as one of the 50 Most Disruptive Companies.
