CrowdStrike General Counsel and Chief Risk Officer Appointed to the White House Commission
Steven Chabinsky to work with a panel of renowned experts to bolster the nation’s cybersecurity
Irvine, CA – April 18, 2016 – CrowdStrike Inc. today announced that Steven Chabinsky, CrowdStrike’s general counsel and chief risk officer, has been appointed by the President to the Commission on Enhancing National Cybersecurity. Under the Commission, Chabinsky and 11 other industry leaders have been directed by the White House to recommend “bold, actionable steps that the government, private sector, and the nation as a whole can take to bolster cybersecurity in today’s digital world.”
President Obama, in an official statement, commended the members for bringing ”a wealth of experience and talent to this important role,” and charged the Commission with “the critically-important task of identifying the steps that our nation must take to ensure our cybersecurity in an increasingly digital world.”
“It is imperative that we lay the groundwork for the safer and more resilient use of emerging technologies and digital information for generations to come. Doing so involves solving hard problems with no easy answers, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t answers. I’m optimistic that we can find those answers if we pull together with a unity of purpose,” said Steven Chabinsky, CrowdStrike’s general counsel and chief risk officer. “I am looking forward to contributing to this important mission by working with the rest of the Commission, which will be soliciting comments from the public, as we seek to recommend actionable steps that balance the often competing demands of security, privacy, functionality, convenience, and cost, all within a dynamic, interoperable, expansive, and international context.”
“We wish Steve and the rest of the Commissioners every success in this important effort. Their dedicated and thoughtful leadership on these issues holds great potential for promoting innovation and the benefits of technology, while lowering the very real security risks we are facing today,” said George Kurtz, CrowdStrike’s co-founder and chief executive officer.
Steven Chabinsky is a veteran cybersecurity expert with more than 15 years of experience in public service, having previously held the positions of Deputy of the FBI’s Cyber Division and Chief of its Cyber Intelligence Section. He is also a columnist for Security magazine and an adjunct faculty member at The George Washington University. Chabinsky received a B.A. from Duke University and a J.D. from Duke University School of Law.
